Forest School Day

Six children and their Independent Visitor’s took part in a Forest School activity funded by STAR and provided by Kaye from Holly & Hawthorn.  This took place at the Somerset Earth Science Centre and the group learnt how to build their own campfire, which they used to boil a kettle for a hot drink, learnt how to whittle and made their own ‘mushroom’. They also baked their own bread to make a hotdog which was delicious!  The group learnt about the countryside code and how to ‘leave no trace’. One Independent visitor said “Thank you Julie for facilitating such an excellent day out yesterday.  Both Sam* and I enjoyed it very much and the mix of youngsters there, made it all the more rewarding.  It was lovely to see Sam* involving himself with others in such a positive and thoughtful way.  I think I might now take up whittling!” (* pseudonym name) Another said, “A well run and enjoyable activity session”. The children commented “This is actually quite good”…”I like whittling”… Asked if they would like to have more forest school sessions, all the children agreed that they would and would take part in these.                                Thank you STAR for your support
