On a wet Wednesday in August 6 mentors and 8 young people met the BugFest Gang at Tilham Farm. We were introduced to an African Land snail called Jeff, a millipede (who remained unnamed), stick insects- large and small, whip scorpions, and of course a tarantula!! Forest School Day Six children and their Independent Visitor’s took part in a Forest School activity funded by STAR and provided by Kaye from Holly & Hawthorn.  This took place at the Somerset Earth Science Centre and the group learnt how to build their own campfire, which they used to.

Several groups of looked after children had some new experiences during the summer holidays

STAR supported a Scout sleep over at the science museum . Scouting is a remarkable movement that brings amazing benefits and enjoyment to everyone involved – children, leaders, parents and everyone involved with the running of the group. Through adventure,  scouts develop team-work skills, friendships, confidence, independence, responsibility and a ‘can do’ attitude to help prepare them.

New Year Ice Skating Day

    The lad I mentor is autistic and has adhd. I knew he hadn’t tried ice skating before, so I was surprised when he gave me a grin and said that he’d try anything once! I fully expected him to get his skates on and then 5 mins later say he was ready to go.
