We hope to have a new website up and running in the New Year.
Thank you for your patience.
STAR aims to continue supporting vulnerable children and young people (0-25) in need throughout Somerset. Enabling them to engage in positive, confidence building extra curriculum activities. For many young people, STAR’s funding is a life-line, allowing them to experience ordinary childhood activities which otherwise would be out of their reach. STAR particularly target those with mental health problems, young carers, those with drug related problems, victims of abuse and crime and those at real risk of offending.
COVID-19. STAR is currently receiving a high level of applications from professionals seeking support for out of school hours and school holidays activities. (sporting and leisure) for when young people can start going outside their homes. Many of these professionals are supporting young people on the cusp of the care sector and/or grandparents that have taken on the care of their grandchildren during these difficult times.
In the current climate, STAR is expecting these applications to sour and as a charity we need to be ready to act. We are already being asked for resources which alleviates boredom whilst young people are having to stay at home, and which also gives some respite to their main home carers. If the effects of COVID-19 continue and young people are expected to stay at home for longer.
